PIAXP Shakes Things Up With Shakedown

The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE (PIAXP) is in full swing, and we are very excited to see who will come out on top in this race to the finish line. There are four stages of the PRIZE – Shakedown, Knockout, Finals, and Validation.

From April 26 to May 7, we held Shakedown – which is exactly what it sounds like. All of the cars and competitors got a chance to “shake out” the bugs and go through a series of tests in order to get them ready for the Knockout Qualifying stage. Shakedown consisted of safety inspections and on-track dynamic safety evaluations, including braking speed, lane change ability, acceleration and refueling/recharging time, and more.

Of the 24 participants, 22 (representing 27 vehicles) will return for the pivotal Knockout stage on June 20th.

CISCO Named As Sponsor of X PRIZE Energy & Enviornment Prize Group

The X PRIZE Foundation is pleased to announce that Cisco has been named the exclusive Presenting Sponsor of the Foundation’s Energy & Environment Prize Group, which aims to incentivize a new era of clean, renewable and cost-effective energy. The goal of the partnership is to generate breakthroughs in climate change, water resource management, energy distribution and storage, clean energy, and energy efficiency/use.

“Cisco strives to help people work, live, play and learn in a more environmentally sustainable way,” stated Robert K. Weiss, President & Vice Chair, X PRIZE Foundation. “Together, we’ll drive innovation through the design and execution of large-scale competitions to address environmental and energy challenges. By tapping into the ‘human network,’ this partnership will be a force for positive change across the globe.”

As a global company focused on innovation, Cisco is making incredible strides in developing technologies that are designed to help curb—and which ultimately may help reverse—the current climate trend. Also, as part of the Energy & Environment Prize Group, Cisco will be the Category Sponsor of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE.

Sorry for the silence...

Hi all!

We realize that you have been hearing crickets from us these past few weeks, so we thought it was time to pop in and say hello. Everyone at the Foundation has been bogged down these past few weeks with a variety of huge events including the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE Shakedown Stage (we're moving closer to our winning teams!) ; our Foundation Poker Tournament (where one lucky winner walked away with a Tesla Roadster); and, of course, our upcoming "Radical Benefit of Humanity" that is being held this Saturday, May 15 at Lucasfilm, Letterman Arts Center, The Presidio of San Francisco.

We apologize for our silence, but once things calm down over here X PRIZE headquarters, we plan on returning to our regularly scheduled "NeXt PRIZE" blog programming :)

Until next time!
